LADDER CART

________________________________________________________________________

laddercart.JPG (600920 bytes)

Purchased in 1888, this was the first ladder truck for the Fire District.  The Brighton Hook and Ladder Company went into service on March 1, 1890.  The truck was pulled by the volunteers for many years.  We are not sure when the cart was taken out-of-service.  For many years the location of the cart was unknown.  In the 1980's it was located in a local residences basement.  The homeowner gave the ladder cart back to the Fire District.

After many hard hours of work and dedication, the cart was restored.  To the dismay of the firefighters, the ladders could not be restored.  Today, the ladder cart is used in public education programs and has been pulled by the current firefighters in some of the local parades.  The cart also is adorned with 8 leather buckets that is believed to be original to the cart.
