Public Education
________________________________________________________________________
The
United States of America
suffers the highest annual losses from fire of any industrialized nation on
earth ($10.7 BILLION in 2005). Annually, more than 80% of all structure fires
and more than 83% of all fire fatalities (4,000) occur in residential
occupancies.
The fire service has long recognized that the means for reducing these tragic
losses lays in effective public fire-safety education programs. GBFPD is
committed to delivering fire
safety education in the schools
within our jurisdiction, focusing on the target group of grades 2-4
during the annual Fire Prevention Week in October, and are available at any
other time and for any other age group during the school year. We offer fire and
life safety programs for senior citizens, another
target group identified as being at increased risk from fire. We offer fire
extinguisher training for employers and other groups. Station
tours with safety presentations appropriate to the age groups are
very popular. We encourage everyone to partake of our free home safety checks and will
assist any homeowner or business with evacuation
planning and disaster
preparedness.
To schedule a fire and life safety presentation for your
school, group or business, contact "Fire Marshal/Division Chief
Kris Krengel"
at District headquarters, (303) 659-4101.
